My friend Stacey and I have been contemplating taking on a project to challenge our creative minds now that we are in ‘the real world’ and no longer ‘student scum’. Well let me tell you, the world is mind numbing, depressing and quite frankly, rude. If you’re reading this and are currently in a job you hate, I’ll give you a piece of advice. SUCK IT UP. There is nothing out here but vast empty space. Oh, and the rival unemployed who are willing to rip off your arm and beat you to death with the aforementioned detached limb over a part time position in a coffee shop.
It is beyond depressing, particularly when you become so demoralized that you apply for jobs you know will only suck the life out of you as you work alongside illiterate locals who cannot form a sentence, let alone spell one correctly. I’ve also found that being branded a ‘tax dodging student’ can lead to the presumption that you’ve never worked hard before. As someone who put myself through University, this really takes the biscuit. Yes there are people who attend University just for kicks, who’s parents are able to fund their tuition, accommodation and drug fueled weekends. But there are people like me who went to learn, who want to work, and who’ve worked some shitty jobs to pay for the privilege of a higher education.
Anyway. Coming back to the project.
Every month, every week and each day around the world, someone somewhere is celebrating something. There are nationally recognised awareness weeks regarding health awareness, and then there’s Star Wars Day…
Over the course of the next month, I’m going to fill you in on a few of these events, documenting my experiences via the blog, perhaps even throwing in a few photographs and design concepts along the way.
